AN ARTICLE: A MYSTERIOUS TOMORROW

By Kola Popson

Tomorrow remains mysterious to all due to the fact that no one knows what exactly it holds. Everybody talks about tomorrow. Everybody is cognizant of tomorrow; even the wicked souls are not left out. Tomorrow is worrisome because it is anonymous. As worrisome as tomorrow is, most of us are carried away by it that we forget that today exists. Often, we are anxious of what tomorrow holds for us. Tomorrow is an important mystery to man.

It is not a fallacy that many live for tomorrow. The poor and the less privilege forget their present predicaments because they hope that tomorrow will be better. This suggests that many would have given up in life or would have even committed suicide, but the hope for a better tomorrow keeps them alive. So, they continue to wait earnestly and eagerly for tomorrow; an anonymous tomorrow that may appear soon or may never come.

Ironically, while some wait earnestly for tomorrow, some are afraid to meet up with it. They do not want tomorrow to materialize. Behold, it is either these people are carried away by their present situation or they probably fear that tomorrow may offer them in abundance the germs of the evil seeds they have planted. However, tomorrow rings a bell to them. At the mention or remembrance of tomorrow, their hearts beat vigorously. Tomorrow is indeed worrisome.

Also to the rich, tomorrow means so much. The rich fervently fear that they may become poor tomorrow. Hence, they would not stop accumulating wealth to themselves, no matter how wealthy or affluent they already are. Unfortunately, most of them die struggling and accumulating wealth. If tomorrow had been known to them, they would have taken time to enjoy the little they had.

Similarly, world leaders, especially political office holders, fear that they may not be relevant tomorrow. Therefore, as some of them prepare to vacate the seats of power, they directly or indirectly anoint their allies as their successors. They do this because they think that they would not stop being relevant if their allies succeed them. As they do this, tomorrow smiles mockingly at them, but because tomorrow is yet to be known to them, they take no notice.

In the same vein, reasonable parents fear what tomorrow holds for their children after they (parents) might have passed on. So they adequately equip their children ahead of tomorrow. They struggle to give them a legacy that will be useful to them tomorrow. Most parents believe that their children are their future. Hence, they take adequate care of them.

Moreover, the youths would not stop thinking about what tomorrow holds for them. People assert that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow. So, the youths wait eagerly for tomorrow, that they may exercise their long anticipated leadership roles. As each day passes, the youths continue to wait for tomorrow that may never come. It is quite ridiculous how some people take advantage of anonymous tomorrow to deceive. Well, this is due to the fact that tomorrow is yet to be known. Also, it is because there will always be another tomorrow after tomorrow.

The true men of God also look forward towards tomorrow. They look forward to a day in Heaven, when their good deeds will be rewarded abundantly by the Creator. They are not really concerned about the enjoyment of this present world; they are more concerned about what comes up tomorrow in Heaven. On a daily basis, they hypothetically preach and talk about Paradise and hell, which can only come into realities tomorrow. To the men of God, tomorrow prevails over all other days.

Oddly enough, God Himself (Who has total control over the past, the present and tomorrow) also looks forward towards tomorrow (Judgment Day), when both good and evil deeds shall be addressed appropriately. Tomorrow means so much to God because it is a day for Him to exercise His full and unquestionable authority over all His creatures. Indeed, tomorrow is a day for God to prove to all and sundry that both Paradise and hell are real. Tomorrow is the day for God to prove to everybody that He is a fulfilling God, Who fulfills promises. Tomorrow is anonymous to all, except God.

In conclusion, tomorrow remains mysterious to all and it won’t stop being one until tomorrow when there will be no more tomorrow. Therefore, as we wait earnestly and eagerly for tomorrow, we must bear in mind that tomorrow is an aftermath of today. In other words, tomorrow starts today.
