Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has ordered that all state accounts with various banks be closed to pave way for the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) initiative, which will take off by 1st of September this year.

This information was made available through an official statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Kaduna State governor, Mr. Samuel Aruwan.

In the same vein, the governor directed that the affected banks in care of Kaduna State Government Accounts should remit the balances to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which will be in custody of Kaduna state’s TSA.

In the statement, Mr. Samuel Aruwan explained that Governor El-Rufai gave the order during a meeting which had in attendance himself, the Kaduna State Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria and representatives of all the banks in charge of the state government accounts.

The statement reads in part, “The banks’ officials present assured the governor that within five working days of receiving the formal instructions from the state government, they will close the accounts and remit the balances to the TSA.”

However, Governor El-Rufai noted further that after TSA has been established, the state government will later open specified sub-accounts not only with the CBN but some commercial banks. He, therefore, gave his words that a session shall be organized by the state government to enlighten the banks on the operational mode of the new TSA and the state sub-accounts to be opened.

According to the statement, the governor, who explained that state government will make available soon needed publications and treasury circulars to substantiate the directive, noted that selected revenue-holding accounts will be excluded from this directive.
